News Release: The second press conference of the project LIFE Natura2000Value Crete
The second press conference of the project took place at the Exhibiton Premises of Natural History Museum of Crete in Heraklion, on Monday the 12th of December, 2016. The conference was held in the context of the Action C.17: Press Conferences of the project "LIFE Natura2000Value Crete".
The main purposes of the conference were the following:
- publication of the project's progress until today as well as the actions that will be implemented in the near future. The members of the Project Steering Committee presented the communicative actions of the project that have been already implemented or are in progress (printed communication material, workshops, training seminars etc.). Moreover a representative of the Hellenic Ornithological Society (HOS) presented the environmental education campaign for the school year 2016-2017 which aims at the information and awareness of teachers and students concerning the ecosystem services of the NATURA 2000 sites in Crete.
- presentation of the Information Centre “NATURA 2000 HALL” (Action C.20: NATURA 2000 HALL).
The design and the creation of NATURA 2000 HALL was carried out by the ICS-FORTH Ambient Intelligence (AmI) Programme. It is a hall dedicated to the areas of the NATURA 2000 Network of Crete. It includes four (4) interactive new technology systems, in which are presented in an understandable and comprehensible way the specific characteristics of these regions, the ecosystems and the species they host, the protection regime applicable to them and the relevant threats, as well as their importance and contribution to social and economic welfare of the island.

The aforementioned actions are being implemented by NHMC, within the context of the project "LIFE Natura2000Value Crete" ("The ecological services, social benefits and economic value of the Ecosystem Services in Natura 2000 sites in Crete" - LIFE13 INF/GR/000188 – funded by Ministry of Environment and Energy). Cooperators of NHMC are the Decentralized Administration of Crete - Directorate of Coordination and Supervision of Forests and the Hellenic Ornithological Society (HOS).
