Attending the 10th World Conference of Ecosystem Services Partnership
The project "Awareness-raising for ecosystem services in areas of the Natura 2000 Network in Crete" participated in the 10th ESP World Conference (Hannover, 21-25 October 2019). It was a great opportunity to meet with colleagues from around the world and inform them about the project LIFE NATURA2000 VALUE CRETE. We warmly thank NEEMO Communications and Events Team for inviting us and hosting us at the LIFE Project stand!
The LIFE Natura2000 Value Crete project was concluded
The implementation of the LIFE13 INF/GR/000188 – LIFE Natura2000 Value Crete project was concluded on December 31, 2018. The Final Report of the project was delivered to the EC / DG Environment in early May 2019. The EC evaluated positively the Final Report of the project with its letter dated July 12, 2019.

After-LIFE Communication Plan
The After-LIFE Communication Plan of the LIFE Natura2000 Value Crete project is designed to ensure the dissemination of knowledge and information about the ecological, social and economic value of the NATURA 2000 sites in Crete, and thus to maximise the demonstrative value of project actions after its completion.
2nd Networking Meeting with the European Program INTERREG ADRION "IMPRECO"
On Wednesday December 12, 2018 the team of LIFE Natura2000 Value Crete project participated in the 2nd Networking Meeting with the social partners of the European Program "IMPRECO" (INTERREG ADRION) that was organized by the Region of Crete (Directorate of Environment & Spatial Planning - Department of the Environment).
The meeting took place at the premises of the Regional Council and among the participants besides the two project teams (IMPRECO and LIFE Natura2000 Value Crete) were also representatives of agencies and public authorities whose activities are related to the protection and valorization of the Ecosystem Services in Crete.
Organisation of 2 Training Seminars for the staff of the Forestry Directorate of the Decentralised Administration of Crete
The Decentralized Administration of Crete organised two training seminars on the "Protected Areas of the Natura 2000 Network - Law Enforcement Offenses" addressed to the staff of the Forestry Directorates of Crete.
Workshops on «Managing NATURA2000 sites: New Challenges, Good Practices and Public Consultation».
University of Crete – Natural History Museum of Crete (NHMC) in the context of program LIFE + Information and Communication, entitled «Ecological Services, social benefits and economic value of ecosystem services in the areas of NATURA 2000 Network in Crete» (Acronym: ‘’LIFE NATURA2000 Value Crete’’ – LIFE13 INF/GR/ 00018), organized two (2) Workshops on the «Management of NATURA2000 Networks: New Challenges, Good Practices and public consultation».
Participation in the 3rd Tourism Festival of Ierapetra Municipality, 5-10 September 2018
The mobile photography exhibition of NATURA 2000 protected areas developed under the Natura 2000 Value Crete project was presented during the 3rd Tourism Festival of Ierapetra that took place during the first week of Autumn 2018 (5 to 10 September 2018).
The information guides on the services and benefits of the coastal, mountainous and rural ecosystems were distributed to participants of this 6 day event.
A fruitful discussion on the ecosystem services and their contribution to the competitiveness of the local tourism product took place suggesting horizontal partnerships for the protection of environment in order to ensure sustainable development.
The action was implemented in cooperation with the Biopolitics International Organization and the Municipal Nonprofit Organization for Environment both of which are partners of the project «Natural Environment and Innovative Actions in Biotourism» funded by the Green Fund.
Participation in Rural August Festival (Chania 24-30/8/2018)
The project LIFE NATURA2000ValueCrete participated in the Rural August Exhibition that took place during the last week of August 2018.
The 3 information guides of the ecosystem services of coastal, mountainous and agricultural Natura 2000 areas containing maps and photos from all the 54 NATURA2000 Protected Areas of Crete were distributed among participants and the project was presented under a kiosk based at the centre of 1866 square of Chania.
This year’s exhibition hosted all in total 40 kiosks at the central city's square.
A two day event in Ano Asites village for the protected natural areas
LIFE Natura2000Value Crete, in collaboration with the Cultural and Folklore Association of Ano Asites village, organized a two day event (July, 27 and 28, 2018) on the protected natural areas and the ecosystem services they offer.
On Friday 27, the project documentary was shown on the hall of the Cultural and Folklore Association, followed by a presentation on the Natura 2000 network areas and their ecosystem services. A long discussion with many questions and remarks from the audience followed. On the next morning (Saturday 28), in Ai Giannis square, the village children enjoyed the project floor game, before moving to Agios Antonios gorge for the release to the wild of two rehabilitated griffon vultures and two buzzards.
Participation of the NATURA 2000 Value Crete Project at the 7th Summer School of Journalism
On Wednesday July 25 2018, the NATURA 2000 Value Crete Project team hosted the students and professors of the 7th Summer School of Environmental Journalism at the premises of the Exhibition of Natural History Museum of Crete.
Purpose of the students’ visit at the exhibition of the Natural History Museum of Crete was to get familiar with the interactive technologies of the NATURA 2000 Hall presenting all the 54 Protected Areas of Crete and get acknowledged with the ecosystem services of Natura 2000 sites.
The School of environmental Journalism is annually organized by the Department of Journalism and Media of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in collaboration with the Institute of Applied Communication of the Department of Communication and Media of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and for second year in the row is hosted at the premises of the Institute of District Press in Chania.
