Workshops

The workshops of the project LIFE Natura2000Value Crete took place in Ierapetra and Sitia, Municipalities of Ierapetra and Sitia on the 10th and 11th of July 2017 respectively. They constitiute the 14th and the 15th of a series of 24 workshops which will be held in all of the Municipalities of Crete in the context of the project's actions. The workshops were entitled ''NATURA 2000 sites: Opportunity or obstacle for the development?".

The workshop of the project LIFE Natura2000Value Crete took place in Heraklion, Municipality of Heraklion on the 24th of June 2017 and it is the 13th of a series of 24 workshops which will be held in all of the Municipalities of Crete in the context of the project's actions. Topic covered in the workshop was "NATURA 2000 Sites: Ally or enemy of the social prosperity?" with the aim of informing the public with regards to the NATURA 2000 sites at European, national and local level, the legal framework that governs them  and the degree of citizens' compliance with it, the socio-economic benefits provided by nature and wildlife, the funding opportunities in the primary sector, as well as an example of connection between nature and tourism through the promotion of traditional products by tourist enterprises. 

The workshop of the project LIFE Natura2000Value Crete took place in Agioi Deka, Municipality of Gortyna on the 10th of May 2017 and it is the 11th of a series of 24 workshops which will be held in all of the Municipalities of Crete in the context of the project's actions. Topic covered in the workshop was ''NATURA 2000 sites: Opportunity or obstacle for the development?" with the aim of informing the public concerning the NATURA 2000 sites at national and local level and the socio-economic benefits provided by nature and wildlife. In addition, attendants were given the chance to discuss issues the local community deals with, and exchange ideas on suitable solutions and investment opportunities in the area. During the workshop, the new documentary of the project was presented to the attendants who discussed its content with the scientists of NHMC.

The workshop of the project LIFE Natura2000Value Crete took place in Archanes, Municipality of Archanes-Asterousia, on the 17th of March 2017 and it is the 9th of a series of 24 workshops which will be held in all of the Municipalities of Crete in the context of the project's actions. It was held in the framework of a three-day (17 - 19 March 2017) educational seminar for teachers in the field of Environmental Education entitled: "Tourism and Environment: Local crops and products", organized by the Environmental Education Center of Archanes - Rouvas - Gouves, in collaboration with the Region of Crete and the Municipality of Archanes-Asterousia. The aims of the seminar were: a) the designation of the local crops in relation with the sustainable tourism in Greece, b) the connection of the natural environment of each region with the education for the promotion and consumption of local products, c) the promotion of Environmental Education activities, and d) the encouragement towards using good practices and exchanging of ideas between the participants.

The workshop of the project LIFE Natura2000Value Crete took place in Gazi, Municipality of Malevizi on the 17th of February 2017 and it is the 7th of a series of 24 workshops which will be held in all of the Municipalities of Crete in the context of the project's actions. Topic covered in the workshop was ''NATURA 2000 sites: Opportunity or obstacle for the development?" with the aim of informing the public concerning the NATURA 2000 sites at national and local level and the socio-economic benefits provided by nature and wildlife, as well as presenting the natural ecosystems found in the wider area of the Municipality of Malevizi which are in need of immediate management and protection. Attendants were also informed about the existing funding opportunities for new businesses, taking into consideration the protection of the natural environment. Students from the High School of Gazi presented the local river of Almyros, its ecological value and the goods it offers to the local community.

A workshop of the project "LIFE Natura2000Value Crete" was held with great success on the 29th of August 2016 at Fragkokastello. The workshop's title was:"NATURA 2000 sites: Opportunity or obstacle for the development" and aimed at the information of the general public on the value of NATURA 2000 sites, their designation as areas of great developmental potential, as well as the presentation of ideas and examples of proper exploitation practices, with respect to the environment. It was the sixth of a series of 26 workshops that are to be held in the context of the communication strategy of the project.          

A workshop of the project LIFE Natura2000Value Crete took place in the city of Rethimno on the 28th of July 2016. Topic covered in the workshop was ''NATURA 2000 sites: Opportunity or obstacle for the development?" with the aim of informing people of the value of the NATURA 2000 sites, their designation as sites with great developmental potential, as well as the presentation of ideas and examples for the proper exploitation of the protected land, with respect to the natural environment. It is the third of a series of 26 workshops which will be held in all of the Municipalities of Crete in the context of the project's actions.
