On July 26, 2017, a training seminar for journalists and media workers was held at the Museum of Typography "Yannis and Eleni Garedaki" at Souda Industrial Park, within the framework of the 6th Summer School of Environmental Journalism (July 21-30, 2017, Chania). The seminar on "Environment and Ecosystems" was co-organized by the University of Crete - Natural History Museum of Crete, the Department of Journalism & Mass Communications of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the Regional Press Institute.

The aim of the seminar was to inform participants on issues related to the environment (ecosystems, fauna and flora, biodiversity, protected areas of the NATURA 2000 network and their importance to the economic, social and cultural wellbeing of local communities).

It lasted 3 hours and was attended by 35 participants. The program included presentations from scientists from the Natural History Museum of Crete and projection of the documentary "NATURA 2000: Life for All". Mr. Georgios Stavroulakis, Professor in the Department of Environmental and Natural Resources Engineering (Technological Educational Institute of Crete), gave a lecture on "Sustainable Development and Water Resources".

The seminar was followed by a discussion and a role play game, where the participants, after being divided into real social groups, undertook to study a fantastic incident of environmental violations and take a stand on it.

The evening was completed with food and live music.
