News Release: Project ‘’LIFE Natura2000Value Crete’’ organised workshop at Ano Viannos, Municipality of Viannos, on the 15th of June 2017
The workshop of the project LIFE Natura2000Value Crete took place in Ano Viannos, Municipality of Viannos on the 15th of June 2017 and it is the 12th of a series of 24 workshops which will be held in all of the Municipalities of Crete in the context of the project's actions. Topic covered in the workshop was "NATURA 2000 Sites: Ally or enemy of the social prosperity?" with the aim of informing the public concerning the NATURA 2000 sites at national and local level and the socio-economic benefits provided by nature and wildlife. The President of the Hunting Association of Viannos presented the work of the Association in Viannos region. Representatives of the Cretan Canine Team for the Detection of Poisoned Baits attended the meeting along with one of the two specially trained dogs that the team has and presented their actions in the Regional Units of Heraklion and Lasithi. Participants also had the opportunity to discuss problems faced by the local community and exchange views with NHMC scientists on possible solutions and future possibilities for growth and investment in the region. During the workshop, the new documentary of the project was presented to the attendants who discussed its content with the scientists of NHMC (Action C14: Open events). Following the workshop, griffon vultures were released close to the entrance of Chondros gorge (church of Ag. Rafail - Chondros village).
