News Release: LIFE Natura2000 Value Crete supported the awareness-raising activities of the Municipality of Heraklion for the World Environment Day

The environmental awareness-raising activities of the Municpality of Heraklion and the Natural History Museum of Crete (NHMC) were completed with great success, on Tuesday the 6th of June. The activities were part of the celebration of the World Environment Day (WED) (5 June).

The Department for the Environment of the Municipality of Heraklion gave out cloth bags in order for people to use them instead of plastic ones, aiming at the application of the European Directive 2015/720 dedicated to the direct decrease of plastic bags consumption.

An exhibition of children’s paintings with environmental and climate change themes was held in Loggia, in Heraklion centre.

Students and teachers took part in the events, whereas the Vice Mayor Mr. Petros Iniotakis invited the public to be actively involved in the environmentally-friendly actions of the Municipality.

Both the travelling photo exhibition and the documentary of the project LIFE Natura2000 Value Crete were presented at the patio of Loggia, while the building was symbolically illuminated.
