LIFE Natura2000 Value Crete 18th Panhellenic Forestry Congress

Decentralized Administration Authority of Crete, represented by Mrs. Patergiannaki Maria and Stamataki Despoina, Foresters of the Directorate General for Forests and Agriculture,
Directorate of Coordination and Supervision of Forests, participated in the 18th Panhellenic Forestry Conference, held in Edessa, October 8-11, 2017. The conference title was: «Hellenic Forestry facing major challenges: sustainable forest management, forest cadaster, environmental technologies-networking and nature protection».
A special workshop on “Information Technology, Sustainable Development, Scientific Networks and Nature Protection” was also help in the framework of the conference.
The program of the Conference included oral and poster communications, as well as a visit to the thermal springs of Almopia ("Pozar"). Αlong with the Conference, the Environmental Education Center of Edessa-Giannitsa, in collaboration with the Regional Unit of Pella, the Municipality of Edessa, the Primary and Secondary Education Departments of Pella R.U. and the Association "neosSOS" organized two related exhibitions:
• Painting exhibition titled "The State of Birds", and
• Photographic exhibition titled "The small World, the Great".
On Thursday, October 12, the participants had the opportunity to visit the Central & Eastern Macedonia Reforestation Directorate in Thessaloniki and on Friday, October 13, they visited the Forestry Office of Thessaloniki.
During the Conference and the visits to the above-mentioned Services, the DAAC representatives distributed to the participants and employees of the respective services information material (brochures and informative guides, as well as the DVD of the documentary about the protected Areas of Crete that are part of the Natura 2000 Network) of the LIFE Natura200 Value Crete program. They also exchanged views on the challenges faced by Decentralized Administrations in the implementation of national and regional policies on environmental protection, but also awareness raising opportunities for the wider public and specific target groups through the LIFE "Information & Communication" programs, such as the LIFE Natura 2000 Value Crete project.
