LIFE Natura2000 Value Crete 18th Panhellenic Forestry Congress
Decentralized Administration Authority of Crete, represented by Mrs. Patergiannaki Maria and Stamataki Despoina, Foresters of the Directorate General for Forests and Agriculture,
Directorate of Coordination and Supervision of Forests, participated in the 18th Panhellenic Forestry Conference, held in Edessa, October 8-11, 2017. The conference title was: «Hellenic Forestry facing major challenges: sustainable forest management, forest cadaster, environmental technologies-networking and nature protection».
Training seminar for journalists and media employees at the Museum of Typography "Yannis and Eleni Garedaki"
On July 26, 2017, a training seminar for journalists and media workers was held at the Museum of Typography "Yannis and Eleni Garedaki" at Souda Industrial Park, within the framework of the 6th Summer School of Environmental Journalism (July 21-30, 2017, Chania). The seminar on "Environment and Ecosystems" was co-organized by the University of Crete - Natural History Museum of Crete, the Department of Journalism & Mass Communications of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the Regional Press Institute.
The aim of the seminar was to inform participants on issues related to the environment (ecosystems, fauna and flora, biodiversity, protected areas of the NATURA 2000 network and their importance to the economic, social and cultural wellbeing of local communities).
Educational seminars for students of the educational institutions of Crete
Three training seminars for the students of the educational institutions of Crete took place between 22 and 24, May, 2017.
The seminars were held at the premises of the Technical University of Crete (May 22), University of Crete (Voutes campus, Heraklion, May 23) and Gallos campus, Rethymno (University of Crete, May 24). The aim of the seminars was to inform students about issues related to the environment (ecosystems, fauna and flora, biodiversity, protected areas of the NATURA 2000 network and their importance to the economic, social and cultural wellbeing of the local communities).

The Natural History Museum of Crete is conducting the second public survey, in order to assess the impact of LIFE Natura2000 Value Crete to the public.
The aim of the survey is to make a qualitative and quantitative assessment of changes in population attitudes towards biodiversity and NATURA 2000 areas, as well as to assess people’s intentions to develop and support environmentally beneficial economic activities.
LIFE Natura2000 Value Crete at the Inauguration of the Astrakoi Environmental Center
The Astrakoi Environmental Center, which is housed in the village's old school, was inaugurated on Saturday, September 16, 2017. LIFE Natura2000 Value Crete participated in the event with the presentation "The ecosystem of the Astrakoi gorge and its services to man." The presentation focused on the natural environment of the area, its importance for the local community and the efforts to raise awareness of its ecosystem services in the framework of LIFE Natura2000 Value Crete.
The GREEN FUND co-finances the LIFE Natura2000 Value Crete project
The Greek GREEN FUND with its Decision No. 121.5/2017 co-finances the LIFE13 INF/GR/000188 – LIFE Natura2000 Value Crete project with the amount of € 27,000.
News Release: LIFE Natura2000Value Crete participated in the 1st Pancretan Banana Festival which took place at Arvi, Municipality of Viannos
he three-day Banana Festival tool place in Arvi, Municipality of Viannos on 11-13 of August 2017. Co-organisers were the Region of Crete, the Municipality of Viannos, the Association of banana producers of Crete and the Agricultural Association of vegetable producers of Arvi.
It constitutes the first Pancretan Banana Festival with the aim of establishing this event as a constitution in the area where banana trees are cultivated in a great extent. Through the Festival an effort was made to promote a high-quality product, inform people on the cultivation methods and at the same time, participate in cultural events, photo exhibition, guided tour through banana tree crops, musical events, while during the festivities, visitors were treated various banana delicacies.
The project LIFE Natura2000 Value Crete participated in the Festival with an information kiosk and a presentation dedicated to the ecosystem services coming from wildlife on Friday the 11th of August 2017.
News Release: Workshops of the project LIFE Natura2000 Value Crete in the Municipalities of Platanias, Kissamos and Kandanos-Selinos, 25, 27 & 28 July 2017
The workshops of the project LIFE Natura2000Value Crete took place in the Municipalities of Platanias, Kissamos and Kandanos-Selinos on the 25th, the 27th and the 28th of July 2017. They are the 16th, 17th and the 18th of a series of 24 workshops which will be held in all of the Municipalities of Crete in the context of the project's actions. The workshops were entitled ''NATURA 2000 sites: Opportunity or obstacle for the development?".

The project LIFE Natura2000Value Crete, being implemented by the University of Crete - Natural History Museum of Crete (NHMC), in cooperation with the Journalism and Mass Media Department of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the Regional Press Institute (RPI), organise a training seminar for journalists and employees in the sector of Mass Media. The seminar will take place at the Museum of Typography "Yannis and Eleni Garedaki" at Viotechniko Parko of Chania, on Wednesday the 26th of July 2017, entitled: "Environment and Ecosystems".
The seminar will take place as a part of the 6th Summer School of Environmental Journalism, 21 - 30 July 2017.
