LIFE Natura2000 Value Crete on the ""Feast of the Earth", in Arkalochori
LIFE Natura2000 Value Crete participated in the "Feast of the Earth", which took place in Arkalochori between 30 June and 2 July, 2018. On the afternoon of 30 June, a floor game and a animal mask workshop were held for the children of the region, which were distributed hats and t-shirts of the program. Throughout the Feast, visitors could see part of the project photo exhibition and were provided with the LIFE Natura2000 Value Crete information material.

LIFE Natura2000 Value Crete participated in the "Environmental Festival" of the "Hamogelo" nursery-kindergarden, distributing its communication material (brochures, books, posters and t-shirts) from the booth of the Natural History Museum of Crete.
Celebration of the World Environment Day in Rethymno, June 5 2018
The project team of LIFE NATURA 2000 Value Crete visited Rethymno in order to celebrate the World Environment Day on June 5, 2018.
The event took place in collaboration with the Marine Turtle Protection Society ARCHELON and the Municipality of Rethymnon and involved a press conference and a floor game for pupils of 5 local primary schools.
Early on Tuesday morning the representatives of all the three co-organizers gathered together at the House of Culture of Rethymno where local media where invited to attend a press conference devoted to this year’s theme of World Environment Day namely: “Beat plastic pollution”.
Participation in the “2nd City Conference on Volunteering and Social Empowerment", Kolympari 4-6/5/2018
The Natural History Museum of Crete - University of Crete, participated in the “2nd City Conference on Volunteering and Social Empowerment", which took place the weekend 4-6 May 2018, in the Conference Center of the Orthodox Academy of Crete, in Kolymbari, Chania.
Aim of the conference was to show the economic, social and environmental importance of Adult Education, the importance of Culture, Volunteering and Cross-sectoral Cooperation inside the Community.
Open event: “Natural Environment and Conservation of Chrysi island”
On the 26th of April, 2018, at the onset of the new tourist season, an open event on the “Natural Environment and Conservation of Chrysi island” took place at the Exhibition of Natural History Museum of Crete - University of Crete (Sofokli Venizelou Av., Iraklion).
The whole Chrysi island (also known as Gaidouronisi) has been designated as a NATURA2000 area, since it hosts a wide range of protected habitat types and flora & fauna species. Thanks to its natural beauty, it is a top destination for the inhabitants and visitors of Crete. Unfortunately, its touristic exploitation is out of control, despite the fact than clear management strategy and practices have been suggested by NHMC.

2nd training seminar for professionals involved in tourism, held at Omalos plateau
The second training seminar for professionals involved in tourism took place in the 31st of March and the 1st of April, 2018 at the Environmental Information Center of Samaria National Park, in Xyloskalo, Omalos Plateau.
The Seminar was organized by the Natural History Museum of Crete (University of Crete) with the support of the Samaria National Park Management Body. It aimed to improve the capacity of tourism professionals (mountain and tour guides, apartment owners etc.) on simplifying the notion of the contribution of biodiversity and ecosystem services to the human well-being and sharing it with tourists and visitors in NATURA 2000 sites in Crete.

The Seminar was organized by the Natural History Museum of Crete (University of Crete) with the support of the Municipality of Lassithi Plateau. Participation at the 4th Pancretan Beekeeping Congress, February 24-26, 2018
The Natural History Museum of Crete participated at the 4th Pancretan Beekeeping Congress, which took place in the Exhibition Center of Agia, in Chania, the weekend 24-25 of February 2018.
Pancretan Beekeeping Congress is considered to be one of the most important exhibitions for the sector.
This event hosted more than 1800 registered participants, and a significant number of guests and distinguished lecturers.

An open event for the celebration of the World Mountain Day took place in Decemer 11, 2017, in the exhibition of the Natural History Museum of Crete (NHMC) and was organized by the project LIFE Natura2000 Value Crete and the Mountaineering Club of Heraklion (MCH).
Open Event for the NATURA 2000 Network and Release of Wildlife in Gonies Pediados (Sunday, November 19, 2017)
Under the framework of the LIFE Natura2000 Value Crete Program, the University Crete-Natural History Museum of Crete (NHMC) in collaboration with the Cultural Association of Gonies Pediados and the Association for the Protection and Welfare of Wildlife, "ANIMA", organized an Open Event for the Protected Areas included in NATURA 2000 Network.
